Fitness errors are one of the biggest threats in your fitness journey. Sometimes the risk is that you won’t get the results that you are working hard for. Sometimes these errors can lead to injuries, which is way more awful and can blow all your progress.

It doesn’t matter in which stage you are, if you are just getting started or if you are a certified trainer, you are always at risk of not achieving your full potential or to hurt yourself.

To avoid this, here are some of the most common errors that you can do while approaching fitness. You never know which error you are doing yourself until it is pointed out to you.

Fitness error #1 Not taking care of nutrition
It’s impossible to achieve your full potential if you don’t take care of what you eat. Obviously, if you are not thinking about competing (which I figure most of you aren’t) there is absolutely no need to track every gram of every food. “No workout can outwork a bad diet”. This is a common saying in the fitness world and it couldn’t be more accurate. If you are working your ass off at the gym because you want to lose weight, but you still eating/drinking more calories than you burn, you just won’t lose any weight. Actually you might end up gaining weight!

Fitness error #2 Not eating enough protein
Protein is the base of every muscular growth and it can accelerate your metabolism too. Having a low protein diet won’t help you to build muscle NEITHER to lose weight. A lot of people think that protein is only for those who want to build muscle. The truth is that even when obviously it is really important in the building muscle process, it’s just as important in the loose weight process.

Fitness error #3 Not hydrate yourself enough
Your body is mainly composed of water. We are 70% water approx.
This means that our body is used to function with that amount of water in it. Without it, you won’t get any close of your full potential. Our body has mechanisms to make sure that it never runs out of the water and one of those mechanisms is thirst. The problem with thirst is that it only appears when you are already dehydrated. Try to not get to that point and drink water constantly, don’t wait till you get thirsty.

Fitness error #4 Having a bad exercise technique
Even if you think that you have a good technique, it might be a good idea to double-check it. Ask a trainer or a qualified friend for advice, or even email me a video of you doing the exercise so I can tell you if you’re doing it right or not. Having a good technique isn’t only crucial to obtain maximum benefits from every exercise, but also to make sure that you don’t injure yourself while doing it. Another great way to figure out if you are using the proper technique is to record yourself. See if you are doing the movements correctly or if you’re compensating with muscles and postures that you shouldn’t be doing.

Fitness error #5 Doing the wrong exercises
Maybe you go to Instagram and see a bunch of elite athletes doing crazy movements and isolation exercises and you try to imitate them. But the reality is that what worked for them doesn’t actually have to work for you. For example, if you are just getting started you should focus on compound movements that activate different muscle groups and joints, instead of individual muscles.
Your life could be much better. And it doesn’t have to be a hard journey for you. Don’t leave it for the future, take action now and start changing your life for good.
